Today, Climate Change is our reality and it is affecting our food supply as a result of drought and the increase in the human population. However, reducing our food waste will help increase our food supply. We need to reduce food waste and by so doing slow down climate change. We will be sharing six simple tips for a sustainable world.

1. Plan Meals

Plan your meals, make a shopping list and stick to it, and avoid impulse buys. This will save you money and help you waste less.

2. Conserve Water

Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and ensure that you take short shower. Turning off the water while brushing your teeth can save about a gallon of water each time.

3. Limit Plastics

Take your own bag when you go shopping and ensure you purchase minimally packaged products.  Use reuseable water bottles and cups when ever you take any fluid.

4. Store Things Properly

When you stock up your cupboards or fridges, move older products to the front and new ones to the back. Also, use air tight containers to store products that you know can be destroyed by insects.

5. Recycle

Recycle paper, plastic, glass, aluminium and reduce the amount of waste that goes to the landfills.

6. Follow the Use By Date on Products

There is a big difference between “best before” and “use-by” dates. Sometimes food is still safe to eat after the “best before” dates, whereas it is the “use-by” date, which tells you when it is no longer safe to eat. Check before you throw it away.
