The expo started in 2018 amid China-US trade friction, after being put forward by President Xi Jinping. This year’s event opened two days after the US presidential election. The expo is seen as aimed at emphasizing China’s stance of opening its market amid concerns that the Chinese-US trade and other disputes might be prolonged.</div>
